| About the Cluster |
Thanagazi Carpet Cluster Development Project is a joint development initiative of Jaipur Rugs Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Industries of the Government of Rajasthan. We aim to provide support for underprivileged members of society to help and empower themselves to improve and maintain a sustainable livelihood through skill and design training, skill up-gradation training, self-help groups formation and marketing linkages.The state level Cluster Development Empowerment Committee, in its meeting held on 21.1.2008 indicatively decided to approve the Developmental plan of amount Rs. 317.46 lakhs for Galeecha Cluster Thanagazi, Alwar, from the financial year 2008-09 to 2010-11. To achieve the desired objectives and goal Department of Industries, Government of Rajasthan, has sanctioned Rs. 317.46 lakhs which is been segregated in three years budget i.e. Rs. 150.55, 140.44, 26.47 Lakhs, for Ist, IInd and IIIrd year respectively. For this purpose a set of activities were plan for a specific time span i.e. setting up of artisan assistance centre, artisan mobilization andformation of SHG, skill training and skill up-gradation, market linkages, SHG into federation. Despite of all these activities a skill based study/survey was conducted by JRF which is not included in approved budget by Department of Industries, Government of Rajasthan. According to surveyed information there are approximately 5000 artisans and 1500 looms (including floor covering companies, middlemen and artisans looms) in Thanagazi and the nearby villages under the radius of 2 to 25 Km. Most of the artisans involved in this work are from ST / SC / OBC communities, whereby the percentage of SC is more than 50%. Most of them are below poverty.
